In the summer of 1999, a decision was made to create a new conventional style bus that would redefine the Type C category. A completely new design that would offer better durability, reliability and safety with a driver visibility footprint that no other Type C could match - a design that was truly integrated, not just a body on a flat cowl chassis. With clear objectives in hand, a group of talented stylists, engineers and product planners set out to define the future of school bus transportation by creating an all-new innovative product, in an ultra-modern 275,000 square foot manufacturing facility.

After four years of market research, design, testing and fabrication, the Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 is a reality. Every body line, every curve, every element of the C2 was designed and engineered to improve durability, reliability, safety and life cycle cost - exactly as it was supposed to do. Drivers, administrators, technicians and parents will all appreciate what the C2 brings to transportation. In fact, school buses will never be the same.

Thomas Type A Minotour small school bus is fast becoming the leading choice in preschool child transportation. Its versatility, easy handling and safety enhancements make it an excellent vehicle for schools, child cares, churches, youth groups, and more!

And, unlike most passenger vans, the Minotour meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for Type A school buses.

For a small bus, the Minotour is loaded with value-added features, like:

  •
  • full height outward-opening entrance doors for easy on and off.
  •
  • a comfortable and adjustable driver's seat.
  •
  • easy electrical access and convenient storage area located within driver's reach.
  •
  • a spacious interior with center aisle.
  •
  • a body structure that delivers a "big bus" feel.
  •
  • optional diesel engine chassis for longer lifespan and fuel economy.
  •
  • optional wheelchair lift for special needs applications.
So strong and durable that we parked our 18,000-pound Type D bus on the Minotour's roof - without extra reinforcement. Its steel cage construction and one-piece, skirt-to-skirt steel rafter held up so well that all its windows and doors still opened easily without binding.

  •
  • available with a Mercedes-Benz MBE900 engine option that provides Thomas buses with additional power, reliability, durability and efficiency.
  •
  • a 14-guage Galvalume floor to help prevent rust-out. We're the only manufacturer to use this more expensive, more durable floor. In cold, wet climates especially, it can last up to nine times longer than conventional G-90 galvanized steel.
  •
  • 16-guage roof crash rails.
  •
  • an optional 78-inch cabin height enables all-size passengers to walk tall and provides for larger windows with 12-inch openings.
  •
  • adjustable driver's seats enable anyone of almost any size to assume a commanding position in the driver's seat.
  •
  • an optional flat floor can provide additional floor space for wheelchair placement.
  •
  • optional overhead storage provides quick access to safety equipment and can be used to house video equipment.
  •
  • the Driver's Command Center logically places essential controls and switches within easy reach. The state-of-the-art console is standard equipment on every Thomas Type C Conventional School Bus.
  •
  • interior wiring harnesses provide easy access to the electrical system without removing passenger windows.
  •
  • three-step stepwell and outward-opening doors make getting on and off the bus easier.
  •
  • high solids polyurethane exterior paint is standard on all Thomas buses and helps keep its shine longer. Powder-coated primer is used in highly rust-susceptible areas.
  •
  • double profile, 3/16" steel bumpers are stronger than other bumpers. And, a wrap-around design provides protection from side angles.
  •
  • flexible sizes and floor plans to let you configure the perfect bus for any route.
  •
  • conventional seating capacity from 35 to 77 passengers.

The Thomas Type D Saf-T-Liner transit-style school bus is the bus of choice when you're servicing denser routes and need greater seating capacity, exceptional visibility and maneuverability, and performance enhancements that keep it on the road longer.

The Saf-T-Liner is also an excellent overland coach - comfortable for driver and passengers on longer routes and out-of-town trips. All Saf-T-Liner models offer capacities from 54-90 students and provide a host of features to match just about any set of driving conditions - from city streets to country roads.

The Saf-T-Liner EF - This front-engine transit-style bus is the most versatile bus going and an excellent value in a flat-front bus. You can seat from 54 to 90 passengers and still get exceptional maneuverability and visibility. A variety of engine choices and sizes helps you tackle just about any route situation.

The Saf-T-Liner HDX - This heavy-duty bus features a rear-engine design that is the mainstay of transit-style bus fleets and has a capacity of 66-90 passengers. The rear-engine design makes it quiet and comfortable; and the oversized windshield give the driver great visibility. Able to tackle punishing routes in style, this bus also features a thermostatically controlled hydraulic cooling system, larger brakes, a steel drop frame, optional transmission retarders for improved braking and optional air suspension. There's even generous optional underbody storage for student activities and trips.
